My name is Chris Hancock. My passion for the outdoors has been lifelong, sparked by growing up on my family’s wetland property outside the city, where I spent countless hours exploring and playing in nature. As a youth, I was actively involved in the Cubs, Scouts, and Cadets programs in Canada, where I gained valuable skills in wilderness survival, camping, and respect for the natural world. My love for outdoor education continued into university, where I took courses in outdoor education, canoeing, camping, and outdoor sports.
Camping is a big part of my life, and I enjoy adventuring with my family. Recently, I completed a 75km, three-day pack raft river trip, tackling rapids up to Class 4.
Currently, my main role is being a stay-at-home parent. After some exploration with my wife, Samantha, we were drawn to the forest school model. Together, we started a local grassroots initiative—Millcreek Forest Playgroup—about three years ago, which continues to thrive. We have a core group of 5-6 families who regularly meet to play, learn, and nurture curiosity in the Millcreek ravine.
I also recently completed the Forest School Practitioners course and am excited to implement the 7 relationships of ethical forest schooling in my work with children and families.
