Maren grew up in Edmonton and has been learning through play for as long as she can remember. Maren has a degree in Environmental Studies that fueled her passion for sustainability and the interconnections of humans and the environment. She finds great joy working in nature and believes in meeting folks where they are at to create meaningful experiences on the land. Maren has worked in environmental education and interpretation across Alberta from the southwest Rockies up to the boreal forest around Slave Lake, as well as teaching outdoor recreation across our city’s river valley. Maren is always keen to share nature facts and loves to learn more about the plants and animals we share the land with, such as one of her backyard bird favourites- the Red-breasted nuthatch. She is very excited to be a part of the EFSS team to continue sharing in the discoveries of nature-based learning and being inspired by the wonderful curiosities of children.
